Mason Crest College and Career Link to Learning Team College and Career Fair (June 12)

The Mason Crest College and Career Link to Learning Team we will hold the College and Career Fair on Friday, June 12 from 9:15 am to 11:15 am in the Mason Crest Elementary School gymnasium. The goal of this event is to raise awareness amongst the students of Mason Crest about higher education and the opportunities that can become available to them when they earn a college degree.

During the event, career fair volunteers will be set up at tables around gymnasium and the students in grades four and five, who would love to learn more about the careers they dream about, will have the opportunity to go from table to table to ask questions about the volunteer’s careers and the path that got them there.

If you are currently working in a career that you love and would like to talk to our students about it, then please email Kimberly Lord at krlord@fcps.edu or by phone at (571) 226-2691.

Volunteers are needed for the Kindergarten Environmental Print Photo Project

ANNANDALE, Va. — The kindergarten classes of Mason Crest Elementary School will soon begin a study unit on environmental print. In this unit, the students will learn to notice print in the world around them. Examples would include learning to recognize print on items like on stop signs, cereal boxes or  as they drive by stores and restaurants. In order to supplement the photos provided in the environmental print alphabet book provided by the school system the kindergarten education team is asking the entire Mason Crest Community to provide pictures showing things the students may recognize in their local neighborhood. Examples may include a photo of a local Safeway sign to illustrate the letter S, or Kmart to illustrate the letter K. Photos can also be taken of items around the home. Examples like a photo of an Xbox for the letter X, or a photo of a jar of Jiff peanut butter to represent the letter J.

Photos can be submitted by email to photo.project@masoncrestpto.org.

For additional information on the Kindergarten Photo Project contact Jacqueline Heller at JMHeller@fcps.edu.
