ANNANDALE, Va. — The kindergarten classes of Mason Crest Elementary School will soon begin a study unit on environmental print. In this unit, the students will learn to notice print in the world around them. Examples would include learning to recognize print on items like on stop signs, cereal boxes or as they drive by stores and restaurants. In order to supplement the photos provided in the environmental print alphabet book provided by the school system the kindergarten education team is asking the entire Mason Crest Community to provide pictures showing things the students may recognize in their local neighborhood. Examples may include a photo of a local Safeway sign to illustrate the letter S, or Kmart to illustrate the letter K. Photos can also be taken of items around the home. Examples like a photo of an Xbox for the letter X, or a photo of a jar of Jiff peanut butter to represent the letter J.
Photos can be submitted by email to photo.project@masoncrestpto.org.
